TOPIC: PC Shutdowns Because Microprocessor Overheats

PC Shutdowns Because Microprocessor Overheats 3 years, 2 months ago #110762

Guys, help naman po how to resolve this problem.

Yap, yung dati pang ordinary heatsink, no copper something.

okay, this is what you'll need:

1. 220 guage sandpaper
2. flat glass
3. flat steady table
4. basahan (rag)

place the flat glass on the table.
place the sandpaper on the glass, sandface up

-rub the surface of the heatsink (contacting the cpu) on the sandpaper in slow looong strokes.
-check the heatsink surface (this is where the rag comes to play, pamunas). i'm sure na yung gilid lang ang makintab? kasi hindi pa lumalapat sa gitna ang sandpaper dahil "warped" na ang aluminum due to heat and pressure. that's why the copper core heatsink was introduced (the copper bar cannot warp at its end and transfers heat better than aluminum).
-you may stop grinding when the whole surface is shiny.

wag madaliin. impatience can lead to disaster. i did this on all my old P4 heatsinks and i didn't need to use any heatsink compound. ^^

ang tyaga ni sir bien! ehehehe!

or maybe you can just use a potent thermal paste to efficiently transfer the heat from processors to hsf..

actually, the heatsink can warp so far away from the cpu chip, a thicker coat of thermal paste doesn't do much anymore since the pressure is just not there for efficient heat transfer.

this is how my old P4 mounting looks like:

and this is what happens when the heatsink is warped:

when a flat surface like a cpu is put against an arching surface, only the two edges of the cpu will actually touch and exert pressure. ^^

this is the only way to go kung gusto ninyong tumagal yung processor. kahit nga bago heatsink mo it is much better na gawin itong ganitong procedure to be sure na talagang flat yung surface ng heatsink. meron din kasing imperfeciton during manufacturing process.
